David is Anointed – 1 Samuel 16

1 Samuel 167 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” But the LORD looks at the heart. How awesome is that. God does not care if we are tall or short, fat or skinny, ware the latest fashion, or dress in sack cloth. I somewhat suspect he prefers the later of each example, for reasons of pride, and placing a higher value on mans opinion then God’s, and that sort of thing. Not that we can’t each have our own style, but we need to primarily maintain our focus on this not of this world.    The rest of this chapter talks about how Saul was tormented by an evil spirit from the Lord. Because of David’s ability with the harp he was called up by Saul to play in an effort to relieve the torment of the evil spirit. What strikes me about this is David’s faithfulness through all of this. He never acted like he was to good for be a musician or above getting his hands dirty because he was destined to be king. He never let his future stand in the way of what he was required to do now.
